Standard Work
At the core of operations and lean manufacturing is standard work. Many businesses work toward it yet fail to truly achieve it. Our team brings the missing pieces.
When performance gets disrupted and mistakes happen, do you usually blame the performer?
If you do, you may have an issue with your standard work.
Performance needs clarity.
All businesses that perform hands-on work require clarity on standard work. Standard operating procedures, or SOPs, are not the same as standard work. Documentation is important and standard work is like a living document. It is a state you can observe, so that you see the same performance done the same way regardless of the person, shift, workgroup, or plant. A number of things must happen to get this unified state to take hold and be “live” as part of operations.
Standard work requires that performers, supervisors, and resource people:
Figure out what works or what is wanted.
Figure out how to teach it reliably.
Ensure the standard performance is monitored and provide useful feedback.
Recognize issues and problems that interfere, and craft countermeasures or solutions.
To help you achieve standard work, we:
Work with subject matter experts to identify standard work
Document it
Provide templates and tools that your trainers can use
Teach your trainers and supervisors how to establish and maintain standard work using a training system
Ensure the right feedback is available for performers of standard work
